The July Column

Dear Neighbours,

With classes now over I would like to congratulate all of the students who celebrated their graduations this June. You have bright futures to look forward to and many successes to be proud of. Congratulations!

Now that summer has arrived let us all remember that young children are at play in our parks, at wading pools, beaches, splash pads and in our neighbourhoods. I ask that drivers keep an extra eye out for children playing, running and riding bicycles at all times of the day.

I hope you all have a chance to take vacation time to enjoy with your children and with your family and friends to enjoy the beauty of the summer months in Ottawa.

Andrew Haydon Park

Pond_B_.JPGWe have received several calls and emails about the pond in Andrew Haydon Park and I wanted to let you all know that the pump is being replaced this summer following a trial period last year. Staff in the Parks and Recreation Department assure us the work will be complete before the end of July.

The new pump will allow for better circulation of the water which will keep the pond cleaner for years to come.

Our office has also received some complaints about the changes to hours of operation for the bathrooms in Andrew Haydon Park.

Unfortunately these changes had to be made because people were flushing diapers and clothing down the toilets when staff were not there to supervise the bathrooms. The bathrooms will now only be open from 7 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. but there will be access to portable toilets 24/7.

A Refreshed Bay Ward Live

I am pleased to announce a new look for my website Bay Ward Live which launched on Canada Day. You will find it easier to access the latest News, Opinion and media on our See and Hear page.

It is also easier now to request greetings for birthdays and special anniversaries or to request that I attend one of your events. Simply click on the Celebrations/Invitations tab at the top of the page and fill out the form and someone from my team will be in touch.

We hope you like the new look of the website but, as always we welcome any feedback you may have at

I wish you all a very pleasant summer.
