The August Column

Dear neighbours,

I hope you are enjoying the best that summer in Ottawa has to offer from its beaches, splash pads and wading pools to its festivals, events and movie in the park nights.

Summer in the City

Photo_for_new_website.jpgIf you haven’t had a chance yet I encourage you to check out the Summer in the City page at There, you’ll find a great list of free events taking place at Ottawa City Hall as well as links to festivals and events across our great city.

The site also offers information about fresh food markets across the city, local museums and art galleries, neighbourhoods across Ottawa, the Ottawa Fury, Ottawa RedBlacks, Ottawa Champions and more. It’s a great starting point to plan activities for your family and for out-of-town guests.

Parenting in Ottawa

This spring Ottawa Public Health launched two new Facebook pages, one in English and one in French, to offer real-time feedback and information from its own public health nurses for parents in Ottawa.

The pages are gaining a huge following and the daily topics are inspiring amazing conversations between parents with questions and nurses with answers and real-life experience to help you navigate the challenges of parenthood. The page is also connecting parents to each other and that is building great relationships and fostering new connections for moms, dads and their kids.

Movie in the Park

On August 30 I am hosting my annual Movie in the Park in Westwood Park in Carlingwood. We will be screening “Home” and serving juice, popcorn, and water.

Please bring blankets and a healthy snack and remember to keep the park clean and bring home anything you bring in to the park.

I am looking forward to seeing you all there.

Enjoy your Summer

For the remainder of the summer holidays I hope you are all able to enjoy time with your loved ones and to appreciate the peace of the warm, hazy summer days.
