Our community here in Ottawa, in municipalities across Ontario and across Canada are in the grip of an opioid crisis.
We have seen this evolving and complex issue play out on our streets, in our parks and in community health facilities.
Sadly, far too many of our residents have fallen victim to this crisis. Many more have been affected as family, friends, support and care personnel.
Recently as you may have heard the Ontario Minister of Health and Long Term Care Dr. Eric Hoskins called for the creation of an Emergency Task Force to assist in informing his Ministry on this unfolding crisis.
As Chair of the Association of Municipalities of Ontario Health Task Force I have accepted on behalf of AMO President Dollin to represent Municipalities on this issue with the Ministry. I will be serving doubly to represent the Ottawa perspective as well.
As the work of the Task Force begins and as we continue to collectively battle this crisis I will be informed by the insight of elected representatives here in Ottawa and across Ontario. On this issue only with our collective strength can we combat this crisis playing out on our community's vulnerable.
