The fair provides youth with access to local employers who are actively hiring. Older Adult Plan Advisory Group meeting

The number of seniors living in Ottawa will more than double over the next 20 years. By 2031, it is predicted that seniors will make up 22 per cent of the Ottawa population. This means that more than one in five residents will be over the age of 65. Development of the Older Adult Plan began in January 2012. Older adults and community stakeholders will have the opportunity to provide feedback on a first draft in early summer 2012. The Older Adult Plan will be presented for approval to the Community and Protective Services Committee later in 2012.

Larry Langevin receives City of Ottawa’s Award for Heroism

OC Transpo operator and Bay ward resident Larry Langevin ensures the safety of his passengers every day and today Mayor Jim Watson honoured him at City Council for his brave and compassionate actions outside the bus. Mr. Langevin received the City of Ottawa Award for Heroism for his quick response to a house fire on Cavan Street on April 22 of this year. Without hesitation, he stopped his bus and ran to alert residents in adjacent homes and assist four people in escaping the raging fire. He also provided them shelter on the bus and administered immediate aid to a woman who received back and ankle injuries after jumping from a second-storey window.
