Many of you will have noticed fences installed on the property of the former Grant School in Bay Ward over the last week. Some of you have written to our office asking for clarification about why the fences have been installed and asking for how long they will be in place.
I’d like to take this time to clear up any of the confusion surrounding the changes set to take place at the former Grant School.
The former Grant School is now the property of the CMFO, which has been renamed la Maison de la Francophonie d’Ottawa, and is scheduled to begin operations this fall.
The fences have been installed because the school is now being redeveloped and there will be construction at the site beginning in the coming days.
The plans for the site were approved at City Council in March. You can read the minutes of that meeting here.
The fences that have been erected are temporary only but they will remain on the site for the duration of construction to protect pedestrians from harm and to keep the construction site secure.
The fences currently block pedestrian access to Carling Avenue via Pinewood and Rob Roy. After construction the Pinewood access will be reopened as agreed upon by the CMFO and the community.
The CMFO is currently forecasting that construction could be complete between mid-September and late fall of 2015.
