Marketing Food to Kids - Board of Health Motion

In light of the Heart and Stroke Foundation’s report titled “Report on Health of Canadians – The Kids Are Not Alright”, I will be asking Ottawa Public Health staff to bring forward a report at the next meeting of the Ottawa Board of Health outlining what steps we can take at the municipal level to limit marketing of sugar based products to our kids, as well as a plan for engaging our community. 

The Heart and Stroke report examines how industry is marketing unhealthy food and beverages directly to children and youth and how this affects their food and beverages preferences and choices. The results are alarming! As a city, we need to act quickly to help ensure we provide healthy and safe options for Ottawa residents, especially children.
