Mark Taylor’s May Column

Dear Neighbours,

During the last weekend in April and first week of May there will be many volunteers out Cleaning the Capital.  Every year residents join together to pick up the garbage and debris that accumulates over the winter months. Their efforts and commitment to our neighbourhoods are what keep Bay Ward beautiful. Thank you to all!

Ground Breaking Ceremony:

In late April we broke ground on the newest SENS Foundation outdoor rink in Bayshore Park. Students from both Bayshore Public School and St. Rose of Lima Catholic School attended along with a large crowd of local residents. The rink will offer skating in the winter as well as a new basketball court in the warmer seasons. Work on the new rink is scheduled to be completed by mid June giving residents the opportunity to enjoy the new and improved facility throughout the summer months.

Seniors Fair:

Congratulations to the staff and volunteers from the Olde Forge Community Resource Centre. I was pleased to once again sponsor and participate in their 2nd Annual Seniors Spring Fair and Lunch. The event was held at the Ron Kolbus Lakeside Centre and it was a packed hall as hundreds of residents attended to see what resources, services and activities are available to seniors throughout our City. I want to say thank you to all those who stopped by our table to say hello, it is always a pleasure to meet and speak with area residents.

Mother’s Day Tea:

There is still time to reserve your seat at our 4th Annual Mother’s Day Tea on Thursday May 8th at the Ron Kolbus Lakeside Centre.  The event runs from 1:00pm-3:00pm. Dominic D’Arcy will once again be entertaining us with his music and we will have a number of celebrity servers joining us. The event is free but seating is limited. Call or email Jodi in my office at 613-580-2477 or Jodi.Jennings@Ottawa.ca  to reserve your seats. I always look forward to welcoming residents to this event each year. It is a wonderful opportunity to enjoy an afternoon of music and companionship as we recognize the importance of mothers and all those who play a vital role in shaping our children’s lives.

Feel free to contact me at our City Hall or Community office. You can also visit our website www.BayWardLive.ca to learn more about our community and what’s happening. Wishing you all a safe and happy upcoming Victoria Day long weekend!

Sincerely,

Mark Taylor
