Continuing Consultations - June Column

May was a month of community consultations and I believe we made some significant progress with our Stage 2 LRT plans. The public feedback we are receiving is helping us to improve how we move around our city. I encourage anyone who continues to have questions relating to what the new LRT will mean for their community to please reach out to my office or the stage 2 LRT team stage2@ottawa.ca .

Today, June 16th, we also received great news from our federal partners that they will contribute the funds requested by the city to complete Stage 2 LRT. The federal government has pledged to contribute up to $1.09B to stage 2 LRT. This funding will help LRT reach Algonquin College and Moodie Drive by 2023 in the West. Once complete, Stage 2 will bring 70 per cent of Ottawa residents within 5km of reliable rail service.

I wanted to extend my kindest thanks to everyone who came together to help out with the flood efforts throughout Ottawa. I’ve heard a great many thoughtful comments expressed by residents who greatly appreciated the efforts of their volunteers. If there was a special volunteer who you feel went above and beyond the call of duty to help, please let our office know.

Upcoming events

On Tuesday, June 13th I’ll be kicking off a new campaign called “Eat Together Ottawa” (ETO). The Salvation Army, The Ottawa Food Bank, Ottawa Public Health, and Loblaws have partnered to create the first ETO Campaign to encourage everyone to eat together and play together as a community to overcome division, isolation, and build new connections of acceptance and hope. Everyone is invited to create your own “Eat Together” event by bringing people together. Be on the look out for more information when the campaign is launched on June 13th. Please check out www.BayWardLive.ca for more information after the campaign begins.
