City Hall to mark the fiftieth anniversary of the Canadian flag

Ottawa – Fifty years ago on February 15, 1965, the Canadian flag was raised on the Peace Tower for the very first time. To mark this anniversary, all of the City of Ottawa flags in Marion Dewar Plaza at City Hall will be switched to our beloved maple leaf flag on Sunday.

This golden anniversary Flag Day is an opportunity to reflect on the past 50 years of our nation as the excitement builds for Canada’s 150th Anniversary in 2017.

Preparations are well underway in Ottawa to host a spectacular sesquicentennial celebration. The city will be rolling out the red carpet for visitors, tourists, conventions, and international events during a full year of excitement in 2017 in Canada’s Capital.
